IL GIRO DEL MONADNOCK RIDES AGAIN! Eight enthusiastic Alfisti, from three states, gathered on May 21st for the 2022 running of this event in Southwestern New Hampshire.
We rolled out of the busy retail district of Nashua that sits on the Massachusetts border. Our five Spiders and one Giulia immediately meandered onto twisting residential and pastoral roads along the border and into Hollis, continuing into Brookline.
From there we zipped up Highway 13 to connect to the 101 bypass of Milford. The road to Peterborough heads up and over the Wapack range with a nice view of Pack Monadnock.
We took a short break in Peterborough, where we would have had a view of Mount Monadnock, but it was hidden in clouds. Then we headed back east on scenic roads, going through the villages of Greenfield, Francestown, and Mont Vernon.
Our last stop for a leg stretch and photo opportunity was at the common in Amherst. It was a short run from there to The Common Man Restaurant in Merrimack, where six of us had great conversation and a relaxing lunch.
Ah, New England weather . . . two weeks ago, we were bundled up with heaters blowing. The forecast for this day was for hot and humid conditions. Through collective will power, we kept the skies overcast and the temps perfect for the first half of the ride, with the sun breaking out as we headed east on shady twisty roads. The heat arrived late enough that at 1 pm we were comfortably inside the restaurant.
