9:30am meet-up time
JOHN AND ROBERTA ROWNTREE are hosting a 75-mile AONE club drive in Hillsborough County, NH, that starts in the retail mecca of Nashua, heads west along the Mass. border on some back roads, and then to Peterborough where we will have a rest stop with some views of Mt. Monadnock before we head back east on more back roads through scenic villages ending in Merrimack. The ride is planned for May 21st with May 22nd as a rain date.
We will meet at the starting point in the parking lot of the Shaw’s Supermarket on Spit Brook Rd. This is off Exit 1 East, just over the MA/NH border on Rt. 3 north. The market is between the Daniel Webster Highway and Rt. 3 (which becomes the Everett Turnpike at the NH border). No tolls at this lower end. Shaw’s is in a long shopping strip but is the first store at the entrance. We will gather at this southeast corner of the parking lot.
This bit of geography is heavily retail, so if you want a coffee and snack you will have many choices: Starbucks, Panera, 7-11, Dunkin Donuts, and there are several nearby gas stations.
We will gather at 9:30 with a departure time of 10 am. The ride should take three hours with a few breaks for a stretch, restroom break, and photo ops.
Lunch will be in Merrimack at The Common Man restaurant just over the turnpike (Exit 11) on the Daniel Webster Highway.
The final call about the weather and whether to run on the 21st or postpone to the 22nd will be determined by Thursday, May 19th.
If you’re coming on the tour, please contact John before Thursday evening, May 19, at AlfaSpiderVeloce87@gmail.com or 603-417-0687. This is John’s mobile, so phone or text is okay. The Rowntree home number is 603-883-8802.
The Monadnock tours were popular club events back in the mid-2000s. Let’s see if we can revive them!
