MOVIE NIGHT RETURNS! Our first AONE Pizza and a Movie Night since before the pandemic is coming up on Saturday, March 29th. And instead of squeezing into the Pratts’ living room, we’ll be staging it at the Weston Art and Innovation Center, the accommodating site of our Winter Potluck Party. It’ll hold 50 of us, and the shades can be drawn to darken the room. And the AIC has a big 13-foot projection screen!
AONE will be renting the hall and having the pizza delivered. The club will also provide popcorn, Pellegrino, coffee, and tea, but please bring your own beverage if you like something stronger. Our previous screening parties have met with excellent turnouts each time, so we hope you'll join the fun!
But what’s the movie? It’s the highly-acclaimed The Speed Merchants, which IMDb describes as “the story of the 1972 manufacturer's Championship Series as told by drivers Mario Andretti (Ferrari 312P) and Vic Elford (Alfa Romeo T33TT/3). The film takes you behind the scenes at Daytona, Sebring, the Targa Florio, the Nurburgring, Le Mans and Watkins Glen, focusing on Mario and Vic, as well as Jacky Ickx, Helmut Marko, and Brian Redman. You visit with the drivers at their homes in France, Belgium, Austria and England where they relax with their families between races. Woven into the film is rare footage of both the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo factories where the cars are prepared before each race.” Here's a trailer to whet your appetite:
Before the film, there's pizza! We'll gather around 5:30PM, the pizza will arrive around 6:00, and we'll dim the lights and run the movie at 6:30. We'll also have popcorn available to munch on during the movie, and the club will supply bottled water and soft drinks. Beyond that, bring your own beer, wine, or whatever.
After the movie, we'll hang around for coffee and desserts (contributions appreciated — please let Deb know if you're bringing something so we don't suffer from confection overload!).
Finally, we'll present another set of short Alfa-oriented video subjects for any who might be interested in sticking around longer. We've gathered together a bunch of clips from movies (and ads) in which Alfas have appeared over the years — fun to watch!
There is no charge for members and their families, but we'll be asking a $10 donation from non-members to help defray the pizza expense. So that we know how much pizza to get, you must sign up with Deb Donovan at 508-735-9345 or debradonovan2001@gmail.com by Thursday, March 27th, at the latest. Seating is limited to 50 people and is first come, first served!
See you at the flicks!
