VSCCA 2023 Activities
VINTAGE RACER AND AONE MEMBER BILL SHIELDS has sent us information on Vintage Sports Car Club of America 2023 activities that may be of interest to many of our members. Any questions can be directed to contacts listed on the VSCCA website or to Bill at wjshields55@yahoo.com. Bill says:
“The VSCCA invites all AONE members to spend the day with us at our Lime Rock events, touring the paddocks, talking to drivers, and of course watching the on-track action of our many Alfa Romeos and other vintage sports cars. There’s no entrance fee and we’ll hand out some VSCCA goodies.”
To learn about getting involved racing with us, check the VSCCA website or feel free to contact anyone listed in the site.
Registration for all our events will open early in January at the VSCCA website.
For those interested in becoming involved in vintage racing, or just a fun day at the track enjoying your Alfa Romeo, the VSCCA has several events this coming spring:
April 21 — One-day, low-key track day at the New York Safety Track near Oneonta, NY, for VSCCA members and guests - like AROC members. Track-prepared car not necessary. (See below.)
May 6 — Driven to Race at Lime Rock, offering autocross time and paced laps on the main LR circuit. A day-long introduction to VSCCA track events. Track-prepared car not necessary.
May 5-6 — VSCCA Spring Sprints at Lime Rock
The May-5-6 events are part of our opening weekend at Lime Rock. VSCCA events usually have 12-15 Alfas racing - Giuliettas, Giulia TIs, and a couple of GTVs, making for a fun weekend for any Alfa enthusiast.
June 3 — Empire Cup including the HRG group with their big-bore Porsches, Mustangs, and Corvettes
September 30 — VSCCA Fall Finale at Lime Rock
April 21st Track Day
The new VSCCA early Spring pre-season “Shakedown Track Day” on Friday, April 21 at the New York Safety Track near Oneonta, NY is a one-day "test and tune" session, with no racing. We’ll have several groups catering to all types of drivers and cars. A perfect Alfisti day.
Below is a full description:
This is a great opportunity for anyone who may have retired from racing or does not race, or perhaps a racer who has a particular car they do not want to race but would like to get it on the track.
Unmuffled and open to all VSCCA members, those entered for the May 5-6, 2023 Drivers’ School and invited guests.
You’ll enjoy at least five 20-minute sessions and can bring any car older than 1975 - especially those exceptional ones we don’t usually see on the track. No wheel-to-wheel racing with passing only in designated areas, so those in pre-war and “preservation” cars, as well as drivers with no track experience, will be able to enjoy the track at their own pace. Approved track drivers get the chance to exercise their racers without the pressure of racing and get them in perfect shape for Spring Sprints.
We'll group participants by speed & qualification and instructors will be on hand to provide pointers. First sessions will be paced for folks to learn the track and you can at any time team up with experienced drivers within your group for lead-follow laps.
Did we mention this is an unmuffled event so bring out those formula cars, sports racers, etc.!
The track will provide corner workers and emergency services, so our VSCCA track worker members will be free to join us in the fun!
The entire track and large, lower paddock will be ours for the day. Included lunch will be catered. Bed & Breakfasts abound en-route and the surrounding roads are magnificent for touring.
We’re limiting attendance to 60, so register early!
ENTRY FEE
Early Bird (Register by April 7th): $299 (Registration open early January 2023.)
After April 7th: $349
