Winter Party

Another Potluck under our belt! The annual AONE Winter Potluck Dinner Party took place on February 28th, and a fine time it was. With the winter we've been having, it was kind of surprising that we were able to pull it off without a single postponement! The turnout was a little smaller than usual (probably because people are tending to hunker around their home fires this year); nonetheless, nearly 30 of the Club Faithful gathered at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, for an evening of fun, food, and frivolity. And it seemed like we were an even more boisterous bunch than usual!

An hour and a half before the party began, your AONE Board of Directors convened for a meeting to discuss several topics. These included a Treasurer's report, the upcoming club officer election, our involvement in the National Convention, ways to bring more sponsors on board, club merchandise to offer, and of course the array of events planned for 2015. A busy and productive meeting!

Then the party-goers began to arrive and the meeting adjourned in favor of ... partying! We all hung around for a while, kibitzing and sipping on the various libations we'd brought. Providing background was a free-running slide show of photos from last year’s AONE events, compiled by President Tom Lesko.

At around 6 pm, platters of various types of scrumptious food appeared on the large serving table and we all lined up with our plates (thanks to Peter Walker, who ran out for them to replace the ones Tom had left back home in his garage). It was quite a fabulous feast — some said the best ever! Several various types of pasta, salads, breads, calzones, etc. etc. — a wonderful assortment. An equally wonderful array of desserts followed afterward, accompanied by coffee (thanks to Dave & Vi who picked it up on the way to replace the coffee Tom forgot to get).

Afterward, AROC National Director Frank La Sala of AROC-CT gave us a presentation on Alfamiglia Nordest, the AROC National Convention coming up this June in Rhode Island. This is a significant effort by the CT and NY chapters, with a lot of help from several AONE members. These guys seem to be on top of everything, and it's going to be a terrific gathering of Alfisti and Alfas right in our own back yard!

Then it was time for the door prizes. There were more than enough to go around, some more Alfa-related than others. There were everything from Alfa Romeo wallets to tools to T-shirts to shift knobs to patches/pens/key fobs to oil filters and shop rags. Special thanks go out to three Alfa parts and accessories suppliers for their kind donations: Centerline Products contributed a box of door prizes and two $25 gift cards, DiFatta Brothers contributed a whole case of Alfa oil filters, and Alfaholics contributed several T-shirts and key chains. Please show them your appreciation by patronizing their businesses! Other door prizes were either donated by club members or purchased by the club.

As in past years, once the door prizes were distributed, people hung around for a spell, enjoying the time with our friends, nibbling on a little more dessert, and sipping more coffee. Eventually, though, we called it a night, packed up our projector and supplies and prizes, took out the trash, and another great Potluck was history. Thanks to everyone who came, and thanks especially to Tom Lesko, who made all the arrangements (even though he left a few home)!Tiny Quadrifoglio
