Glynn Motorsports Gathering

Alfa Romeo Rain Restraint Rules!

Another weather wonder cleared the air for a robust repeat rendezvous at the annual AONE Glynn Motorsports (GMS) event this year. The organizer was facing eating his air filter when he rescheduled the event's first date due to rain that didn't materialize, and when the "rain-date" was forecast in advance as a Katrina-like deluge. The Alfa gods were definitely on duty, as they cleared the air one hour before the event on the rain date (leaving the air cleaner still in my car).

Filling the GMS parking lot were dozens of cars and Alfa owners, including Jeff Greenfield and friend from western Mass (recall that Jeff hosted us at his house & facility at the end of last year's AONE Indian Summer Sortie, and we thank him again). As often happens at this event, so many different models show up: Giuliettas, Giulias (including the elegant Sprint Speciale of Rod Burdick), Duettos, 1750 Spider Veloces, later Spiders, Bertone GTVs, GTV6s, Paul Glynn's Milano Verde (164 owners, where were you?).

Perhaps the highlight was Paul's presentation of his own slides, primarily of pre-WWII Alfa racecars during restoration in Paul Grist's shop in the UK, as well as some from his time as chief mechanic with the US team racing GTAs. Paul narrated several carousels of slides and took questions. These cars are rarely seen and Paul pointed out the workmanship and technical details as he went along. A big thank you, Paul!

In addition, we appreciate the efforts of Michael Wrigley and Ian Anderson to address individual questions and fix at least one car before it headed back home. As last year, Off the Vine Tuscan Grille catered, providing delicious roll-ups for lunch (they are in Rowley, MA; a wonderful lunch spot whenever you're at nearby GMS).Tiny Quadrifoglio
