Winter Potluck Party

Another AONE Potluck Winter Party is under our belts!  (And we mean that in more ways than one.) On Saturday, February 6th, thirty-some-odd members and significant others came out for this year's gathering at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, all bearing various forms of scrumptious foodstuff and a yen for having fun.

Around 6 pm, people began arriving and greeting one another. We hung out and kibitzed for a while, it being a fine opportunity to catch up with friends we haven’t seen for some time and perhaps to meet some Alfisti we hadn't met before. Gradually, the buffet table started filling up with irresistible culinary offerings, so we formed a line and began filling our plates. As usual, it was quite a feast, with an amazing assortment of pastas, antipastos, calzones, entrees, salads, fruit, breads, and more. Later, the desserts came out — again, just a wonderful and delicious array.

After dessert was consumed and coffee was poured, we filled up a table with all sorts of Alfa-related door prizes. Some were donated by generous Alfa Romeo parts and accessories suppliers (thanks especially to Centerline and Performatek this year!), some were donated by members, and our club purchased the rest. The prizes included T-shirts, car care kits, shop fender protectors, gearshift knobs, baseball caps, coffee mugs, oil filters, brake fluid bleeder — quite a variety, with most sporting one form or other of the Alfa Romeo logo. Everybody got to take something home! AONE President Tom Lesko normally presides over the door prize frenzy, but for the past two years he had missed the party due to hospitalizations. This year, it was a close call — he had surgery just a couple of weeks before, but we're happy to report that he was fit enough to do door prize duty plus enjoy the entire evening.

Then it was time for the evening’s entertainment — and that is definitely the correct word! Last year, some of your fellow members continued campaigning their $500 Milanos in two 24 Hours of LeMons race weekends. Brian Shorey and Kevin Redden of Scuderia Limoni gave us an enlightening and amusing multimedia presentation on their startlingly successful race season, complete with photos of the car's preparation, scenes from the racing action, and some of the hilarious antics that went on throughout the whole affair. Andy Kress has written an excellent detailed and humorous account of his experiences as crew and driver for Scuderia Limoni, and it's accompanied by Brian's fine photos. The article will appear on this web site in a few days' time — we'll let you know when it's available!

After the show, we all hung around for a while chatting and then started picking up the place, packing up our leftovers and door prizes, and heading toward home, having logged another very fun AONE Winter Party. Our thanks go to all the folks who helped in planning and pulling off this fine event, and to everybody who showed up with such great food and provided such fine camaraderie!

Prior to the start of the party, eight members of the AONE Board of Directors held a meeting at the Tavern. Some of the covered ground included ideas for new merchandise for the Club Store, and an advertising structure that takes into account our new paperless communication model. But, this being the start of a new year, the main topics discussed had to do with our schedule of club events for the upcoming season. This information will result in the compilation of the AONE 2010 event calendar, which will appear on the Events page of this web site quite soon. Stay tuned — we'll notify you when it's filled in.
